Bundesliga: Leipzig manager Eberl: Yann Sommer is better than Sven Ulreich | Sports

It’s slowly starting again!

The Bundesliga finally starts again on Friday – and offers an absolute top game to start the year! RB Leipzig welcomes FC Bayern. For many experts, the duel could be the trend-setting game in the master fight. The Munich team is currently in the lead with 34 points, while the Saxons are third, six points behind (28 points).

If Max Eberl (49) has his way, the gap will be reduced to three points on Friday. The new sporting director of RB on the BILD program “Lage der Liga”: “If Bayern calls up the full performance, nobody in the Bundesliga can currently hold a candle to them. But if they weaken, then we want to be there.”

The record champions will definitely miss Manuel Neuer (36), who broke his tibia and fibula during the winter break. Eberl: “Whenever top players are not on the pitch, it is not beneficial for the team that is missing them. Of course, a Manuel Neuer is missing, who is also the captain of Bayern. Whether this is an advantage will be up to us. Sven Ulrich (New replacement; ed.) is a very, very good goalkeeper, but it will depend on us how much we push him. Because he’s not a Manuel Neuer either.”

Spicy: He doesn’t seem to think the keeper is the best solution. Asked about Yann Sommer (34), whom he once brought to Gladbach and who has been traded as a new replacement for weeks: “Yann is one of the best goalkeepers in the Bundesliga, if not in Europe.” Would he fit in with Bayern? “Yes.” Is summer better than Ulreich? “I would say yes.”

The new Leipzig manager does not see a new failure as a bye. Eberl: “We’re also missing a few top guys. Christopher Nkunku and Peter Gulacsi are definitely not an option. With David Raum there is still a question mark.” A win would be helpful to be able to have a say in the championship fight. Eberl clearly believes that his trainer, Marco Rose (46), can win the championship trophy: “Marco can win titles. He proved that during his time in Salzburg.”

Otherwise, Eberl talked about the following topics…

Transfers: “We lost Hugo Novoa to Basel – but that will be the only departure in January. In the summer there will be a few more personal details coming our way. Especially with Konrad Laimer and Dani Olmo. I’ll fight for both until it’s really decided. But as long as there’s a one percent chance I’ll do anything to keep the two guys. With Christopher Nkunku, unfortunately, things are quite clear with Chelsea.”

About Leipzig’s sporting leadership: “A few personal details have changed. Olivier (Mintzlaff; d. Red.) switched to Red Bull, now Florian Scholz follows (Commercial Director; ed.) him there. Christopher Vivell has gone to Chelsea. That’s why we’re currently quite lean in terms of sporting leadership. I’m currently in the process of taking a closer look at a few things.”

About his return and the move to RB: “I’m really happy to be back. I deliberately took my time to be 100 percent fit when I returned. That’s me.” And RB? Eberl: “I was surprised by the strength of the club. You could see from the outside that the club has energy – but the club has incredible power and dynamism. If you see the training, that’s another level above Gladbach. You have to say that so clearly.”

About Rudi Völler as a possible successor to Oliver Bierhoff in the national team: “He knows everything. He knows the DFB, was a coach and worked for a top club for a long time. I think that’s a very good choice and I can well imagine that he can form a good bulwark with Hansi Flick. Rudi can spark euphoria in the country again when it comes to the national team.”

But not only Eberl was a guest, but also Felix Zwayer (41). The referee spoke, among other things, about the long stoppage time at the World Cup in Qatar: “I don’t think we’ll experience it like it was in Qatar. I can’t imagine up to 14 minutes here.” The second major topic that was discussed with the referee: dealing with the referees. Zwayer, who has already been harassed several times: “I would like us to work things out together in the future. Sure, there are emotions involved, and that’s okay, but we have to find a line there.”
