SC Cambuur has strengthened the vanguard on the last day of the transfer market with Bjørn Johnsen. The former striker of ADO Den Haag and AZ signs a contract with the Frisians until the end of the season, which he must help with goals. FC Utrecht took over Victor Jensen from Ajax.
The arrival of 31-year-old Johnsen does not come out of the blue. The Norwegian has been training with Cambuur in recent days in the hope of earning a contract. He was on a free transfer since his contract with MLS club CF Montréal expired.
“Björn has been here for a few days for several tests. He has shown that he is in top shape despite a limited number of playing minutes,” says technical manager Foeke Booy on the Cambuur site.
Johnsen started his professional career in Norway and, via clubs in Spain, Portugal, Bulgaria and Scotland, ended up at ADO Den Haag in the summer of 2017. There he scored nineteen goals and three assists in one season, forcing a transfer to AZ.
In Alkmaar, Johnsen could not continue that line. The sixteen-time international scored seven times in 26 official games and was loaned to Rosenborg BK. After that, Johnsen played in South Korea before signing with Montréal in 2021.
Cambuur needs an offensive impulse. The club from Leeuwarden scored only eleven times in the first nineteen games, the least of all Eredivisie teams. Cambuur is penultimate with twelve points. The Frisians brought Navarone Foor, Mimoun Mahi and Ben Rienstra to Leeuwarden earlier this month.

FC Utrecht strictly Ajax player Jensen
FC Utrecht was also still stirring on the final day of the transfer market. The Domstedelingen take over Victor Jensen from Ajax. The 22-year-old Dane signs a contract until mid-2026 with FC Utrecht, which has an option to keep him for a year longer.
Ajax picked Jensen from the FC Copenhagen youth academy in the summer of 2017. The attacking midfielder played in the youth of the team from Amsterdam in the first years and made his debut in the main force in December 2020 in the home game against PEC Zwolle (4-0 win).
It was not the start of a successful period in Amsterdam. Jensen played a total of only four matches for Ajax, which rented him out to FC Nordsjaelland and Rosenborg. This season he only played twenty minutes in the cup match against FC Den Bosch (0-2).
“With Victor we bring in a technically skilled player who has creativity and good running ability,” says technical director Jordy Zuidam. “In addition, he has a great character and can play in several positions in midfield and on the flank. During his periods at Nordsjaelland and Rosenborg BK, Victor has matured and also grown physically.”
Earlier on Deadline Day, FC Utrecht announced that the lease with Daishawn Redan has been terminated. The 21-year-old attacker returns to Hertha BSC.
