Baumgart: “I’ve seen one or the other great pass” | table football

Steffen Baumgart was on the verge of his first win as a coach against FC Bayern. Despite the late equalizer, the Cologne coach was very happy with his team’s performance, which was also due to the opponent’s performance.

Baumgart coached Bayern Munich five times, and ended up losing five times. In the sixth attempt, the 51-year-old was close to a surprise success with his team from Cologne. The Domstädter led 1-0 until just before the end thanks to an early goal by Ellyes Skhiri – before Joshua Kimmich unpacked the hammer to equalize in the 90th minute.

And yet Baumgart was not dissatisfied. The result was “annoying because of the timing”, but it was “basically completely fine”, classified the coach on “Sat.1”. “I’ve already seen one or the other great pass – unfortunately from Bayern,” Baumgart smiled. Even if his eleven were no longer able to “continue to counterattack”, the Rhinelanders continued to make it difficult for the big favorite and initially only allowed further chances immediately after the break.

However, the longer the game lasted, the more exhausting it became for Cologne. There were almost no more relief phases. First of all, Marvin Schwäbe saved brilliantly against Thomas Müller (79th), before Kimmich’s long-range shot finally hit. “The boys were on the limit,” revealed Baumgart. The leaders’ “speed” and “passing security” didn’t fail to have an effect. “The guys who came in were stone dead after a quarter of an hour.” And yet the Cologne team kept fighting.

That was exactly what Baumgart was more important than the away coup that he just missed. “They fought back and that was important, otherwise you can’t get a point here.” The passionate commitment of his team impressed the coach: “I’m glad that the boys always push their limits.”

In addition, a “good goalkeeper” and “that little something you need” ensured that the people of Cologne “go home satisfied with the point”. The first after the last nine defeats against Bayern in a row.
