Barcelona did not let themselves be caught by Girona’s neighbors, although it took Pedri an hour to score the only goal of the match. With the victory, Barça does increase the pressure on pursuer Real Madrid, which must now win tomorrow to keep the title race exciting.
No Ferran Torres and – perhaps more importantly – no Robert Lewandowski at Barcelona. Both men were suspended. Especially the absence of goalgetter Lewandowski made itself felt at Barcelona.
As might be expected, Barcelona dominated Girona for almost an entire match, but it came on as a substitute Pedri (who replaced the injured Dembélé after just 25 minutes) who had to make the difference in his 100th match for Barcelona, his 6th goal of the season after a typical Barça team goal.
That lead was secured without any problems, meaning that Barcelona has won all its matches this calendar year, in all competitions. The difference with Real Madrid is currently 6 points. Real will play against Sociedad on Sunday evening.
