Autumn champions fixed on January 21: Bayern-Jäger Freiburg goes down 0: 6 in Wolfsburg

Autumn Masters fixed on January 21st
Bayern hunter Freiburg goes down 0: 6 in Wolfsburg

SC Freiburg is the only club that still stands between FC Bayern and the curious autumn championship in January. But there is now clarity in the Bundesliga because the people of Breisgau received a violent smack about the restart from VfL Wolfsburg. In the crisis duel there is also a clear winner.

Eintracht Frankfurt – FC Schalke 04 3: 0 (1: 0)

Tail light Schalke 04 continues to stagger unchecked towards direct relegation in the new year. Coach Thomas Reis’ team lost 3-0 (0-1) to the Champions League round of 16 and new Bayern hunter Eintracht Frankfurt and set an inglorious negative Bundesliga record for the 36th game in a row without an away win.

Jesper Lindström (22nd) with a goal after a remarkable solo run, Rafael Borre (84th) and Aurelio Buta (90th + 1) shot the long lackluster Frankfurters behind Bayern Munich in second place – and the miners deeper into the crisis. Schalke, who were unable to compensate for the lack of quality in the first game after the World Cup break, need a perfect second half of the season to stay up in the league.

VfB Stuttgart – 1. FSV Mainz 05 1: 1 (1: 1)

Cautious start to the rescue mission: Returnee Bruno Labbadia and VfB Stuttgart missed the first win they had hoped for in the fight against relegation in their first competitive game under the old, new coach. In the home game against FSV Mainz 05, the Swabians did not get more than a performance-related 1:1 (1:1) at the start of the year.

Serhou Guirassy (36′) gave VfB the lead in what had been a turbulent game, but Marcus Ingvartsen (40′) equalized with a penalty shortly afterwards. While Stuttgart initially has to make do with the relegation place in the new year, coach Bo Svensson’s team is still stuck in the lower middle of the table after the fifth game in a row without a win.

VfL Bochum – Hertha BSC 3:1 (2:0)

With the fourth home win in a row, VfL Bochum has left the relegation zone and pushed Hertha BSC even deeper into the table basement. Even after a ten-week winter break, the Westphalians, who were still without a win at the bottom at the beginning of October, continued their series with a 3-1 (2-0) win over the Berliners and initially climbed to 14th place. The permanently ailing capital city club, on the other hand, is penultimate after four away bankruptcies in a row.

Philipp Hofmann (22nd/57th) and winter newcomer Keven Schlotterbeck (44th) scored the goals in Bochum’s first competitive win against Hertha since August 2009. Suat Serdar (87th) scored the goal to set the final score. Under coach Thomas Letsch, who took over VfL at the end of September with just one point, Bochum scored 15 points and their home strength is reminiscent of times long gone: VfL last won four times in a row at the Ruhr Stadium in 1997 under Klaus Toppmöller.

VfL Wolfsburg – SC Freiburg 6:0 (3:0)

SC Freiburg lets Bayern Munich go into the new year after a desolate start. The “number one hunter” of the record champions missed everything at VfL Wolfsburg and deservedly lost 0:6 (0:3). Patrick Wimmer (1st) and Jonas Wind with a brace (34th and 37th) as well as Yannick Gerhardt (56th), Ridle Baku (80th) and Luca Waldschmidt (90th + 4th) with a penalty kick for the aggressive and effective Wolves, Christian Streich’s team didn’t even score a consolation goal.

Freiburg is now five points behind Bayern, who scored a point in the 1-1 draw at RB Leipzig on Friday evening – but remains second in the table. Coach Nico Kovac’s factory club climbed to sixth place with their fifth win in a row.

1. FC Union Berlin – TSG 1899 Hoffenheim 3:1 (0:1)

Union Berlin celebrated a furious comeback at the start of the new year and stopped its negative trend. Coach Urs Fischer’s team won 3-1 (0-1) against TSG Hoffenheim after falling behind, also thanks to double packer Danilho Doekhi, and jumped to a place in the Champions League.

Defender Doekhi (73’/90′) and Jamie Leweling (90’+6′) ensured the success of the Berlin team in ice-cold temperatures and the sleet in Köpenick the Kraichgauer. Union remains unbeaten in the league after three league games without a win at home, Hoffenheim is stuck in the lower middle of the table after six games without a win.
