Korda equaled the Grand Slam maximum by advancing to the round of 16. In addition, he defeated a player from the world’s elite ten for the first time at the “big four” tournament. Former No. 1 Medvedev now occupies eighth place in the rankings. Korda, a former junior winner at the Australian Open, will play against Pole Hubert Hurkacz in the quarterfinals.

“I just went for it,” Korda described his game plan that led to the biggest win of his career. “It was an incredible match. I knew what I had to play and I stuck to it, even though my emotions were flying up and down. I’m excited,” added the tournament’s 29th seed.

Twenty-one-year-old Šwiatková is in the round of 16 at Melbourne Park for the fourth time in a row. Last year’s semifinalist stayed on the court with Bucsa for only 55 minutes. In the first set, she gave the 100th player in the world the “canary” and was close in the second set as well, the Spaniard won the 12th game in the match. Šwiateková can win her fourth Grand Slam title and her first at the Australian Open.

Standing in her way will be Wimbledon winner Jelena Rybakinová from Kazakhstan, who defeated last year’s American finalist Danielle Collins 6:2, 5:7, 6:2. Even thanks to eight aces and 33 winning balls, she defeated the conqueror of Karolína Muchová from the second round. The native of Moscow, representing Kazakhstan, is in the round of 16 of the Australian Open for the first time.

Coco Gauff goes on without losing a set. The 18-year-old American, who outplayed Kateřina Siniaková in the opening round, claimed her eighth victory in a row after her triumph over Peraová. Before the first Grand Slam tournament of the season, she triumphed in Auckland.

Maria Sakkariová, the sixth seed, surprisingly said goodbye to the tournament. The Greek tennis player was defeated 7:6, 1:6, 6:4 by the Chinese outsider Chu Lin, who has never defeated an opponent from the top 10 ranking and has not yet passed the 2nd round at a Grand Slam.

Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, who knocked out Tallon Griekspoor of the Netherlands after a 6-2, 7-6, 6-3 win, continues among the men. The third-seeded player, who is the highest-ranked tennis player in the tournament after the elimination of Spaniard Rafael Nadal and Nor Casper Ruud, will face Jannik Sinner in the round of 16. The 21-year-old Italian turned the duel against Marton Fucsovics from Hungary and won 4:6, 4:6, 6:1, 6:2, 6:0.

Fifteenth-seeded Sinner turned the duel from 0-2 to sets for the first time, even though he made 52 unforced errors against Fucsovics. In the remaining three sets, he broke his opponent’s serve eight times and celebrated his advancement after three hours and 36 minutes. He will try to avenge last year’s quarter-final defeat to Tsitsipas, who is three years older.
