Australian Open > Djokovic warns Tsitsipas before the final: “I’m ready to play a long time: if it’s five sets, then it will be five sets; if it’s five hours, then it will be five hours. I can’t wait to be there”

If Stefanos Tsitsipas can claim to have already beaten Novak Djokovic twice (in Montreal in 2018 and in Shanghai in 2019), the Greek player has however lost the last nine confrontations (10−2) including four in just 2022.

A not very flattering record for Stefanos especially before facing the Serbian ogre this Sunday in the final, the undisputed master of the place in Melbourne. Moreover, the latter made a point of declaring, facing Serbian journalists on Friday, that he was ready for all eventualities. A statement as a warning for those who will play “the game of their lives”.

“You could say that this final was expected, given how we played. There are not many secrets between us. He knows my game, I know his. So far, we haven’t just met on grass. Tsitsipas has matured a lot, he is 25 years old and at the peak of his abilities. This might be the match of his life – he’s playing to become world No. 1 and win a Grand Slam title, against me. He’s going to be very motivated and he’s playing well, you can see his progress. But I know what to do tactically, I played some of my best games in Melbourne. I’m ready to play long: if it’s five sets, then it’s five sets; if it’s five o’clock, then five o’clock. I can not wait to be there. »
