Even participation in the final would be enough for the Norwegian Ruud, insofar as the Serb and the Greek do not win the first Grand Slam event.
Curiously, Rafael Nadal cannot make it to first place, although as number two in the world he is the first pursuer of industry leader Carlos Alcaraz.

Risky going to the toilet – Djokovic surprises the referee
4 HOURS AGO
The reason: As the defending champion of the Australian Open, Nadal has to defend 2,000 points, so at best he can only keep his 5,770 world ranking points. Alcaraz, on the other hand, only loses 90 points despite his absence and falls back to 6730 accordingly – so Nadal can’t get by.
Ruud, Tsitsipas and Djokovic, who occupy positions three to five in the ranking, can collect a lot of points and all break the Alcaraz mark of 6730 points.
- The battle for first place at a glance:
ATP Raning / Player | Points before AUS Open | Points for reaching the final | Points for winning the title |
1.) Carlos Alcaraz (not at the start) | 6820 | – | 6730 after the tournament |
2.) Rafael Nadal | 5770 | 4970 | 5770 |
3.) Casper Ruud | 5720 | 6920 | 7720 |
4.) Stefanos Tsitsipas | 5715 | 6195 | 6995 |
5.) Novak Djokovic | 5070 | 6270 | 7070 |
Is Djokovic expanding the record?
Tsitsipas reached the semifinals in 2022 and therefore has 720 points to defend. Alcaraz failed in round three, but only loses 90 points as a result.
While Djokovic would extend his record to 374 weeks as number one in the ATP ranking if he took the top spot, it would be the first time for Ruud and Tsitsipas to take the place in the sun.
Nadal shows great reaction on the net – top 5 points from Monday
