“Asturias is Worldwide” exceeds five thousand signatures to support the candidacy of El Molinón

The citizen platform “Asturias is World Cup” has exceeded 5,000 support signatures to ask the Royal Spanish Football Federation for Asturias to be one of the venues for the Spanish bid for the 2030 World Cup. Asturians from all over the world, from Mexico to China, India or Poland, have already shown their support for El Molinón to be chosen among the 15 courses that choose to be part of the final list of 11. This platform, promoted by 107 soccer teams and 22 civil and economic society organizations from the Principality, aims to help the region experience a World Cup again after the 1982 one.

The fact of having already obtained 5,000 signatures brings “Asturias es Mundial” closer to the goal of achieving 20,300 adhesions, coinciding with the year in which the competition is held, which the platform will send to the Spanish Football Federation to represent that, among all the venues that aspire to host the World Cup, Asturias is the candidacy with the greatest popular support. This race continues to develop initiatives to add more Asturians.

The platform has published a video where, with a touch of humor, the participants wonder what the World Cup would be like if it were held in their town. A video that, with two different versions, is already being shared on social networks and WhatsApp groups. In addition, the tour of the Principality will begin in February, where information tents will be set up to gather the support of each Asturian.

«Hosting the Soccer World Cup in Asturias implies great economic and social development for the region. A boost for local businesses, tourism, sports and the whole of society. A way to unite all Asturians in the world with the same objective, ”they explain from the platform. Among the organizations that appear as participants are the Chamber of Commerce of Gijón and Oviedo, the Asturian Football Federation, the Covadonga and Otea Culture Group, among others.
