Applause for the sporting work of Eibar

The work done by the clubs, sports venues, educational centers and other agents linked to sport in Eibar will be honored today at the recognition ceremony organized by the City Council, where a posthumous tribute will also be paid to Manu Aguirre, a great promoter of martial arts in the municipality and creator of the Kalamua judo club, who passed away last November. The appointment will take place in the Portalea assembly hall, starting at 7:00 p.m.

This event will kick off the program of activities that will commemorate throughout this year the distinction of the Armera town as European City of Sport 2023. “We are clear that the recognition we have obtained is not the exclusive merit of the Consistory ; it is of all the sports agents that offer a great variety of proposals and services”, said the mayor, Jon Iraola yesterday. For the councilor from Eibar, the title held by the city is due to the fact that it has “an active sports ecosystem, with around thirty clubs that promote disciplines of all kinds, as well as facilities and spaces for people of all ages and physicals conditions”.

More than 60 agents

Thus, this afternoon’s meeting will start with the projection of the video that the City Council created for the presentation of Eibar’s candidacy for the aforementioned recognition. The attendees will then be given a copy of the diploma that the mayor and mayor Ander Curiel collected in Brussels on December 6, and a replica of the logo designed with reason for said distinction.

The programming that is taking shape has already announced some activities, such as the celebration, in April, of the Back to the Basque Challenge 2023the World Jugger Championship that will be held in July, or the municipal collaboration in the start-up of a local dog sports club.
