Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid doesn’t want to be distracted by the fact that he will face his former team in Super Bowl LVII.
Prior to joining the Missouri organization in 2013, the 64-year-old coached the Philadelphia Eagles from 1999 to 2012.
“It doesn’t matter who we’re up against. I try to block out all the hype that comes with our sport,” said Reid, whose comments were reported by the NFL Network.
“It’s a big game for everyone. It’s the Super Bowl. I try to get away from distractions and make sure I have a good game plan. That’s what really matters.”
“They’re a really good team,” he said of the Eagles. That’s where my energy goes, because we’re going to have to face this formation after kick-off. […] My brain is busy laying out a solid game plan for my team to be at the top of their game.”
With the Eagles, Reid reached the NFL’s ultimate game of a season once. However, he lost Super Bowl XXXIX 24-21 to the New England Patriots.
He lifted the Vince-Lombardi Trophy in Super Bowl LIV while at the helm of the Chiefs. The following year, Reid again suffered the disappointment of losing in a big game, when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and a certain Tom Brady defeated his club in Super Bowl LV.
