After his goal to take a 1-0 lead (19th minute), the Spain striker first formed an “A” with his hands to dedicate the goal to his wife Alice Campello, as always.

Then he reached over his shoulder with one hand and covered the “M” of his name on his jersey, leaving only “orata” to read.

Guessing the Morata action

Real won 3-1 in extra time. But instead of the result, many in Spain were much more interested in what exactly Morata meant with his cover action.

The day after, there was largely agreement in Spain: According to consistent media reports, the action was directed against Real fans who had insulted Morata with chants while warming up.

Accordingly, the supporters of the royal had repeatedly called “Rata” (in German: rat). A nod to his name. But also a nasty swear word for the long-time real star.

His celebration was now an attempt to respond to those fans. Although he had already given the best answer with the goal himself…

Morata only has to practice holding letters with pinpoint accuracy. Then his rat revenge will be clearer to understand next time.

Morata has scored nine goals in 27 appearances this season, including seven in LaLiga and two in the Copa.

At the World Cup in Qatar he had scored 1-0 against Germany (1-1) and thus ensured the embarrassing elimination of the DFB-Elf in the preliminary round. In the round of 16 he failed with Spain because of the surprise team Morocco.

The striker (formerly also Chelsea and Juve) played for Real from 2008 to 2014 and 2016 to 2017, but never really made it there in the shadow of star striker Karim Benzema.

Do yesterday’s mob fans still hold it against him?
