ROBERTO MOUZOone of the greatest idols in the history of Boca, will be the protagonist tomorrow of a particular tribute in which a statue will be inaugurated in his honor in the Bombonera.

The event will take place at 7:00 p.m. in the central hall of the xeneize stadium, where Cuevero played 183 of the 426 official matches he has played in his career, thus becoming in the player with the greatest number of appearances in the entity of La Ribera.

Roberto Mouzo will have his statue in La Bombonera

Mouzo, 70, is a native of the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Barracas. He debuted in the First Division in the 1971 season and he remained in Boca until 1984. Then he enlisted in Estudiantes de Río Cuarto and Atlanta, a club from which he retired from sports.

“I asked that my statue be next to that of my friend, Chapa Suñé”told Mouzo, very excited, to the site ‘Cadena xeneize’.

“And I want a picture of the shirt I wore in the second half of the ’76 final against River to be placed between my statue and his” said the eternal defender, referring to that definition of the National Championship in Racing field, when the goal -precisely- was scored by ‘Chapa’ Suñé, through a free kick that surprised Ubaldo Fillol.

That match went down in history, not only because it was the first superclassic final between the two most powerful players in Argentine soccer, but also because there was no film record of the goal achieved by the former midfielder until the 2016 season. called it the ‘ghost goal’ from a team led by another xeneize hero like Juan Carlos Lorenzo.

Mouzo, who shares with Silvio Marzolini the leadership in superclassic matches played (29) throughout history, won six titles in Boca: Metropolitano 1976 and 1981; National 1976; Libertadores Cup 1977 and 1978 plus Intercontinental Cup 1978.

The statues of the so-called ‘Hall of Fame’ in Boca, next to the local dressing room, evoke the figures of Juan Román Riquelme, Ángel Clemente Rojas, Rubén Suñé, Silvio Marzolini, Antonio Rattín, Guillermo Barros Schelotto, Martín Palermo and Roberto Mouzo plus that of the coaches Juan Carlos Lorenzo and Carlos Bianchi.
