Days before the NFL National Association Finals, San Francisco 49ers defensive lineman Charles Omenihu was arrested for domestic violence in San Jose.

According to a police report released on Tuesday, the 25-year-old athlete was jailed and later released by authorities.

At around 4.39pm on Monday, Omenihu’s girlfriend called the police and claimed the footballer pushed him to the ground during an argument. She complained of pain in her arm, but refused to receive medical treatment. After being released from jail, the Niners rep was barred from contacting the woman.

“We are aware of the matter involving Charles Omenihu and are in the process of gathering more information,” the 49ers said in a statement.

Omenihu is an important member of the Californian club’s defensive line rotation. In 17 regular season games, he had 20 tackles and 4.5 quarterback sacks. He’s also had two sacks in his team’s last two playoff games.

The 49ers are preparing to face the Philadelphia Eagles for a spot in the Super Bowl game. The two teams of the National meet this Sunday at Lincoln Financial Field.
