3 Important Keys for Kevin/Marcus to Advance to the Quarter Finals of the India Open

Jakarta, CNNIndonesia

Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo/Marcus Fernaldi Gideon managed to qualify for the quarter-finals India Open 2023 after winning against Ren Xiang Yu/Tan Qiang. Here’s the key to winning Minions.

Kevin/Marcus qualify for the quarter-finals of the India Open 2022 after winning over Ren/Tan with a score of 16-21, 21-18, 23-21. Kevin/Marcus needed 75 minutes to finish Ren/Tan’s resistance.

Following are the keys to Kevin/Marcus’ victory over Ren/Tan:

1. Mental Competition

The mental condition of playing Kevin/Marcus deserves thumbs up in the match against Ren/Tan. After losing in the first game, Kevin/Marcus were on the verge of being left behind 14-17 in the second game. But they are able to show mental toughness to get through these difficult situations.

The same thing repeated in the decider game. Kevin/Marcus were 13-16 behind and saw their opponent get a match point at 20-21. But they can get through the urgent situation well.

2. Stamina

Stamina is clearly the key to the Minions’ success in winning the match which lasted 75 minutes. With the slower shuttlecock speed, Kevin/Marcus could survive Ren/Tan’s sharp attacks for 75 minutes.

Qualified stamina then becomes one of the key factors for Kevin/Marcus to play under pressure from opponents. Opponents often held superior control until Kevin/Marcus finally got the momentum to push their opponents back.

3. Play Pattern Flexibility

Kevin/Marcus were often under pressure in the first game because they were constantly forced to lift the ball by the pressure Ren/Tan generated.

The situation started to change in the second game when Kevin/Marcus took a lot of competitive drives and regained momentum to be in an attacking position.

However, Kevin/Marcus also chose to play defensively several times by continuing to lift the shuttlecock so that Ren/Tan continued to smash. With good defense, Kevin/Marcus can survive and get points from the opponent’s mistakes.

The fluid play pattern that changed at the end of the third game was one of Kevin/Marcus’ key moments to win.
