Family mugged with guns – Sterling departs from WM

England stormed into the quarter-finals with fantastic attacks – the highlights in the video

England celebrate a clear victory and meet France in the quarterfinals. Senegal misses good chances of taking the lead. Then the Three Lions demonstrate merciless efficiency. Bellingham initiates two goals fantastically. The highlights in the video.

Raheem Sterling was absent from England’s squad against Senegal. His family was the victim of an armed robbery. The 27-year-old attacking player may not return to Qatar.

Ahen England’s footballers secured the quarter-final ticket at the World Cup in Qatar with a 3-0 win over Senegal, attacker Raheem Sterling was already gone – physically and mentally. “We have to give him time to solve the problem or be there for his family. That’s the most important thing at this point, so we’re going to give him that space. The family comes first,” said head coach Gareth Southgate on Sunday evening in Al-Khour after the confident win over the African champions.

According to consistent media reports, armed people broke into Sterling’s home home when his family was at home. Sterling was therefore not in the squad for the 3-0 Englanders of the Three Lions. Southgate reported on conversations with Sterling and the hours leading up to the game when the topic was also present in the team. “It’s not ideal for a group before a game like this. But in a situation like this, the individual is more important than the group,” Southgate clarified.

Whether Raheem Sterling returns is open

Until the quarterfinals against world champions France on Saturday (8 p.m.) there would be enough time for a return. But Southgate left open whether and when Sterling will return to the training camp in Al-Wakra in the south of Doha. “We have to look day by day and make the best decision for him and his family. We as a team send him our best wishes and hope to see him again as soon as possible,” said Captain Harry Kane.

Southgate’s team, on the other hand, is sporty. The coach and his players celebrated after reaching the quarter-finals, especially Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham. “Yeah, he’s one of the best youngsters, definitely. I already praised him yesterday before the game. He’s a fantastic player. He has everything it takes,” said Kane after reaching the quarterfinals.

The 19-year-old Bellingham contributed the assist to the first goal and also excelled with his ball control and his duel, with which he carried the initially weak Englishmen along. “His biggest strength is his mentality. The acceptance gave Jude more freedom. He used that exceptionally well,” said Southgate.
