Winning the World Cup with Portugal was the biggest dream of my career

Portugal lost 0:1 to Morocco in the quarter-final match of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar on Saturday.

“Winning the World Cup with Portugal was the biggest and most ambitious dream of my career,” the footballer wrote on his Instagram account on Sunday. “Unfortunately, that dream ended yesterday.”

Ronaldo played in his fifth World Cup finals, but in the last two games he started from the bench and only played in the second half.

“I gave everything on the pitch. I have never shied away from a fight or given up on this dream,” added the footballer. “I was always just another player on the pitch, fighting to score goals. Never turning my back on my teammates and my country.”

Ronaldo, who is currently without a club after leaving Manchester United, did not reveal whether it was his last game for Portugal.

Before the defeat in the quarter-finals, the Portuguese footballers won the first two matches of subgroup H over Ghana (3:2) and Uruguay (2:0), but in the last match they were forced to admit the superiority of South Korea with 1:2, which did not prevent them from taking the first place in the group. In the round of 16, after a “hat-trick” by Gonzales Ramuš, the Portuguese national team defeated Switzerland 6-1.
