Wimbledon expansion continues to add problems

Wimbledon’s dream of building a new stadium and more than 30 additional tennis courts continues to add up. It is that the initial plan, which was proposed more than a year ago, now has the planning meetings as a problem. They have been postponed, again, and would take place in February 2023.

The trouble resumed when the All England Club submitted a large number of new documents to Merton Council., location where Wimbledon Stadium is located. According to observers reported by the media Daily Mail, They believe that there could be up to 18 months of very complex challenges for this expansion to be confirmed and work to begin.

In addition to these legal inconveniences in terms of filing papers, joins the Wimbledon Society, which is one of the many local organizations that oppose the project, and maintain that the sum of these new documents (a total of 20) raised the overall totality to 100 and that it is necessary to restart the entire project so that it reaches a good agreement.

In a letter, the Wimbledon Society said: “We have written to the planners at Merton Council suggesting that the AELTC (All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club) You should withdraw your faulty application and start over with a new application that is complete, consistent, and addresses the deficiencies highlighted by Merton’s consultant in this application.”

This Wimbledon-proposed renewal would cost around £200m and the All England Club insists it is necessary to maintain the tournament’s place at the top of the sport among the other three Grand Slams. On this, a club spokesperson said: “We will continue to follow the clearly defined and agreed planning process as required of any applicant. Within this beautiful and historic landscape, the AELTC Wimbledon Park Project will unlock some truly significant benefits for the local community and the natural environment alike”.
