WC football | Referee Marciniak objected to criticism for his performance in the World Cup final

There were two Argentine substitutes on the pitch when Messi scored, and as L’Équipe reported, in such a case the goal should not be awarded. There was even a petition for a repeat of the final, which, according to Reuters, has so far been signed by 220,000 people.

However, Marciniak disagrees with the criticism. At the press conference, he therefore showed a photo on his mobile phone in which seven French substitutes were on the pitch during one of Kylian Mbappé’s final goals.

“The French didn’t mention this photo where you can see that when Mbappé scores there are seven substitutes on the pitch,” said Marciniak. “It didn’t affect the match in any way. It’s just looking for excuses, it doesn’t bother me at all,” added the Polish referee.

Marciniak also stated that only the French media have a problem, not the players. “They thanked me after the game and were happy with our performance. I spoke to Hugo Lloris and Olivier Giroud for a while,” he said.

“Kylian Mbappé also came and hugged me. He was extremely disappointed by the defeat, which I think is a normal human reaction. I also hugged him and tried to comfort him a little,” said Marciniak, who also officiated the league derby between Sparta and Slavia this March.
