Wake up VfB!
In Stuttgart, Bruno Labbadia (56) is waiting for the next rescue mission in his long time as a coach. In order for this to succeed, Labbadia takes action. The first units of the week take place at 7.30 a.m.: “No activism, but we use the time,” he says. “We want to have breakfast together, lunch together.”
In addition to discipline, Labbadia also relies on other virtues. BILD explains which ones.
Cohesion: “We have to bring the team together. What do I need from my partner? Can I rely on him? We have to work on that.” In order to survive the struggle for existence, Labbadia wants a conspiratorial bunch. VfB wasn’t like that in the end.
Communication: Labbadia, who speaks German, English and Italian, places great value on communication. Problem: It’s been very quiet on the VfB training ground in recent months, the players tend to be more concerned with themselves. In addition, the large French clique around superstar Silas, who tend to keep to themselves. Labbadia knows that from his time in Wolfsburg (2018-19): “The situation was similar back then, with many French players. In the beginning it wasn’t easy, but in the end something developed from it. We have to be able to do that at VfB too.”
leadership: VfB once again has their backs to the wall – and that with the league’s Bubi squad. No wonder players often hide on the pitch. Labbadia: “Of course it does something with a young team when you have so few points. In such a phase, the bases on which the young players can pull themselves up and develop are often missing.
So Labbadia misses leaders. In his search for leading players, he doesn’t seem to have found anything at VfB so far.
