UTS, a competition created by Patrick Mouratoglou, will return in 2023

2023 will see the return of the Ultimate Tennis Showdown (UTS). The competition created by Patrick Mouratoglou returns and will offer a new formula presenting a sort of mini-championship in four stages. UTS will visit the United States (July 20-23), Europe (September 14-17) and Asia-Middle East (November 30-December 3). Finally, the final will take place from December 7 to 10 (Asia-Middle East).

If the host cities should only be known in a few months, Mouratoglou is sure of his concept. “In 2022, we took the time to raise funds to give the event its full dimension, in particular welcoming spectators, explained the French coach. We are now ready to offer, for 2023, a high-level competition in four stages, four events that will take place in several places around the world and also other novelties. » And if the names of the participants still remain secret, Mouratoglou promises “a cast of five-star players”.

The first four editions were broadcast in more than 100 countries and gathered more than 1.7 million fans on social networks

The concept of UTS was born during the pandemic, in 2020. Mouratoglou then transformed the constraints of the moment into an opportunity to experiment with a new immersive tennis format, designed for new modes of consumption, intended to create and engage a more young. Broadcast in more than 100 countries, the first four editions of UTS reached more than 35 million households and gathered more than 1.7 million fans on social networks.

Unique format, the UTS offers experimental rules. Thus, in order to know the beginning, but also the end, a game is played in four eight-minute quarters. In case of a tie, we go through a sudden death. There is only one service. 15 seconds, and no longer 25, are granted to players between points. Coaching is allowed. The public can enjoy an interview with the players between each quarter. The code of conduct lets players express themselves as they wish. Finally, cards allow you to obtain certain advantages during the match.

As a reminder, Félix Auger-Aliassime, Matteo Berrettini, Taylor Fritz, Daniil Medvedev, Dominic Thiem, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Alexander Zverev have already participated in an edition of the UTS.
