‘University of Latvia’ loses to ‘Kalev’/’Cramo’ of Tallinn in the LIBL game

On Saturday, December 3, “Latvijas Universität” (LU) experienced failure in the “Pafbet” Latvian-Estonian Basketball League (LIBL) game.

LU lost to Tallinn’s “Kalev”/”Cramo” represented by Mārtiņš Meier and Zigmāras Raimo with the result 66:73 (21:21, 7:12, 21:13, 17:27) at home.

Ricardas Vitolskis was the top scorer for the home team with 18 points, while Dāvids Vīksne, scoring 16 points and grabbing ten rebounds, collected a “double-double”. Another 13 points for LU were scored by Edvards Mežulis, who also grabbed eight rebounds.

Wesley van Beek stood out for Tallinn with 24 points, five rebounds and six assists. Meyer scored five points while Raimo added two points, seven rebounds and four steals.

LU is ninth with five wins in 12 matches, while the Tallinn club has six wins in eight matches and is third in the standings.

Latvia is represented in the tournament by six teams – “VEF Rīga”, “Ventspils”, “Ogre”, “University of Latvia”, “Valmiera Glass”/”Vidzemes Augstskola” and “Liepāja”. Estonia is represented by nine teams – “Parnu Sadam”, “University of Tartu”/”Maks & Moorits”, Tallinn “Kalev”/”Cramo”, Tallinn “TalTech”, Rapla “Avis Utilitas”, Rakvere “Tarvas”, Tallinn ” Kalev”/”Audentes”, “Viimsi” and newcomer “Keila”. The Ukrainian team “Prometey” of Slobojansk also competes in the tournament. The Ukrainian team is participating in the LIBL competition for the first time.

The best men’s basketball clubs of Latvia and Estonia played in a joint championship for the first time in the 2019 season, when 15 teams participated. In the “Final 4” tournament, “Ventspils” basketball players became the first winners of the league.

Last year, “VEF Rīga” basketball players were crowned LIBL champions, who beat “Viimsi” in the decisive match, while “Parna Sadam” won bronze.
