Unexpected, like everything in the World Cup: an own goal was Qatar’s 100th goal

That of this first of December was a day of madness in the World Cup in Qatar. The belgium removal, in group F, and Germanyin the E, surprised more than one.

But in addition to the fall of two of the teams that came as favourites, This Thursday Qatar-2022 surpassed the barrier of 100 goals. And like everything in this World Cup, it happened in an unusual way.

The 100th goal was… an own goal! And the person in charge of scoring it was the Moroccan defender nayef Aguerd, who scored in his own goal in the game in which his team beat Canada 2-1.

With his team already leading by 2 goals, the English West Ham defender deflected a cross from Canada’s Sam Adekugbe and inadvertently scored into his own goal. His sadness to mark him so far only goal against Morocco contrasted with the joy of the North Americans who celebrated in this way his second goal in Qatar.

The goal against, however, did not interfere in the Moroccan classification, which returns to a phase of direct elimination of a World Cup after 36 years, The first and only time they had reached the round of 16 was at the 1986 World Cup in Mexico.

Morocco surprised this Thursday by qualifying first in group F with 7 points, followed by the current runner-up, Croatia, which added 5 units. Outside were Belgium, with 4 points, and Canada, with no points and only two goals, one of them Aguerd’s 100th goal.

Picture Moroccan will face Spain in the round of 16while Croatia will face Japan.
