Txetxu Rojo, one of the great names in the history of the Athletic Club, dies

José Francisco ‘Tchexu’ Rojo Arroitaone of the great players of the history of the Athletic Clubwhich will celebrate 125 years since its foundation in 2023, died this Friday at the age of 75, the white-and-red club has confirmed to EFE.

Txetxu Rojo (Bilbao, 28-01-1947), also known by Red I because his brother José Ángel also played for Athletic, he is the second player who has played the most matches with the white-and-red team shirt, behind other great legends of the club, José Ángel ‘El Chopo’ Iribar.

The big one from Rojo, who was delicate greeting for a while, he played a total of 541 games in the 17 seasons in which he remained in the white-and-red team, and scored a total of 68 goals.
