The sled duo Upīte/ Ozoliņa remains immediately behind the podium at the Nations Cup in Innsbruck

On Friday, December 2, the Nations Cup, or qualification competition for the first stage of the World Cup, took place in the Austrian city of Innsbruck.

Seven Latvians participated in the qualification competition: Sigita Bērziņa, Kendija Aparjode, junior Franceska Bona, Eduards Ševics-Mikeļševics/Lūkass Krasts, as well as Anda Upīte/Sania Ozoliņa.

The other athletes – Elīna Ieva Vītola, Gints Bērziņš, Kristers Aparjods and Mārtiņš Bots/Roberts Plūme – have won a place in the strongest group based on their points in the last three stages of the Eberspächer World Cup.

In the women’s competition, 29 women fought for a place in the main competition. Sigita Bērziņa showed the best result from Latvia, who showed the second best result at the start, but finished with the sixth fastest time [+0.301]. Candy Aparjode had the best start, but the eighth position at the finish [+0.337]. On the other hand, junior Franceska Bona ranked 25th [+0.884]without qualifying for the main competition.

The victory in the Nations Cup was won by the American Emily Sweeney, showing only the 11th best time at the start, but finishing with the best result – 39.844 seconds. Second – German Merle Frabel (Merle Frabel) [+0.149]and the third – Frabel’s teammate Diana Eitberger (Diana Eitberger) [+0.160].

In the competition of eleven men’s two-seater crews, debutants Eduards Šević-Mikelšević/Lūkas Krast won the sixth place [+0.509] and secured a place in the main competition.

In the competition of two-seater crews, the victory was won by the USA athletes Zachary Di Gregorio/Sean Hollander (Zachary Di Gregorio/Sean Hollander), finishing in 39.972 seconds. Second – Germans Hannes Orlamunder/Paul Constantin Gubitz (Hannes Orlamünder/Paul Constantin Gubitz) [+0.076]. On the other hand, another US duet – Dana William Kellogg/ Duncan Segger (Dana William Kellogg/ Duncan Segger) took third place. [+0.283].

Anda Upīte/Sanija Ozoliņa won the fourth place in the women’s two-seater crew competition among eleven ladies’ duos, losing the third position by 0.066 seconds.

Victory for the Austrians – Selina Egle/Lara Michaela Kipp (Selina Egle/Lara Michaela Kipp) [40.573]. Andrea Vötter/Marion Oberhofer from Italy came in second place. [+0.080]. Jessica Degenhardt/Cheyenne Rosenthal from Germany (Jessica Degenhardt/ Cheyenne Rosenthal) is in third place. [+0.103].

On Saturday, December 3, women, as well as women’s and men’s two-seater crews, will go to the start and fight for prizes. Including nine Latvian athletes: Elīna Ieva Vītola, Sigita Bērziņa, Kendija Aparjode, Mārtiņš Bots/Roberts Plūme, Eduards Šveits-Mikeļševics/Lūkass Krasts and Anda Upīte/Sanija Ozoliņa.
