The first of the three days of the 43rd Spanish Navy Trophy of the Snipe class, X Admiral Marcial Sánchez Barcaiztegui Trophy, XVII Azor Ambiental Trophy and the Paco Pérez Memorial, within the national Snipe circuit, closes, and it does so by complying with the two-week program tests. That has been the best, because the wind has not been as ‘cheerful’ as it should have been to accompany the fleet of almost 80 Snipes. With just 6 knots of 170º (S-South) the fleet closes the first of regattas.

As planned, the favorites, in general terms, have done their homework. Especially the Almería tandem formed by Martín (son) and Alejandro Fresneda (father). The CM Almería sailors, thanks to the 5-2 partials, finished in first place, adding 7 points.

In this line, another crew that enters the podium pools has not failed. Martín Bermúdez (RCN de Madrid) and Ángela Pumariega (RC Astur Regatas) remain with the provisional team, with two good results: 6-3 harvested in a complicated regatta field for them and for everyone. The provisional bronze is for the Belgian boat with the team made up of Manu Hens and Alexandre Tinoco. Both have maintained the same irregular line as their predecessors, since they have started with a discreet tenth place and have finished with a second.

Behind and tied for fourth place with 13 points are Pablo Fresneda (CM Almería) and Alberto Martínez (CN Los Nietos), in the same irregular line with partial scores of 1-12, while the Belgians Herman and Daan Vandormael close their participation 5-8. Nicolás Viar and Alba Ortega (RCM Abra) are sixth with 17 points, followed by Rosa Furia and Carlos Lizancos (CV Navarra) with 18 points; Juan Manuel Barrionuevo and Alejandro Díaz (CN Los Nietos) with 22; the locals Paco and Marina Sánchez (RCR Santiago de la Ribera) with 24 and closing the top ten Ángel Ballesteros and Sonia Hidalgo (RCN Motril) with 10 points.

One of the great favorites and current European Masters champion, the Valencian Agustín Zabalua, with Belén Olivas (RCN de Valencia) has not given his best version. With partial scores of 26 and 6 in the second test, he finished in a discreet 14th place. A line very similar to the one that other favorites have maintained in the Mar Menor.

The weather forecasts for the second day, Monday the 5th, are expected to be very different from today’s. Everything points to a northerly wind with an average of 14 knots, this together with the discard that will come into play at the end of the fourth test, will make the general classification of a very important turn and even determine the possible podium on Tuesday, December 6.
