The Cristo Rey de Andújar school strengthens its Week of Attention to Diversity | andujar

It has reached its 14th edition and this year has focused on people with High Intellectual Capacity and on overcoming disabilities

The Cristo Rey public school has celebrated one more year, the XIV Week of Attention to Diversity, a section in which this educational center has been postulated as a national reference for its commitment, eagerness and the design of activities that have had an enormous impact , with the presence of important experts on the subject.

This year’s edition has focused on the ‘Talents and Adapted Games’ section. The activities have been directed at the entire educational community of the town. The students have learned what life is like and how young people with High Intellectual Capacities feel and how boys and girls with some type of disability play. For this, the educational center has had the participation of expert professionals in this subject such as Cristina Martínez, Rafael Sibaja and the members of the Ágora association, together with athletes who have represented Spain internationally in different modalities of adapted sports such as the cases of Aouita and Simón Cruz. Representatives of Aprosoja and the Guide Cycle in the Natural Environment and Free Time of the IES Jándula, carried out didactic workshops with the kids.

The week started with a workshop on adapted games and raising awareness about deaf and hard of hearing people. The Aprosoja collective prepared a series of recreational games for the kids to become aware of deafness, its limitations and how to deal with this anomaly in a playful and entertaining way. Third cycle students learned from Auoita the effort and self-improvement behind his sporting successes in a talk given by this international athlete, entitled ‘Sports for people with disabilities: Effort and Improvement’. The international adapted badminton player, the Illiturgitan Simón Cruz also lectured the kids on this subject.

The teachers of the educational centers of the city received useful notions and practical advice on the intervention with students of High Intellectual Abilities, by Cristina Martínez. The Special Education teacher and person with High Capabilities, Rafaela Sibaja, took a tour since she was a child of what life is like for these people, with their fears, insecurities, and ways of learning. Students and families from the city’s educational centers visited the photographic exhibition prepared by members of the Ágora and Altas Capacidades Intelectuales collectives.
