The ATP threatens to exclude Wimbledon and the British tournaments from the circuit in 2023

Wimbledon and all the British tournaments could be left out of the circuit for the 2023 season, as the ATP has advanced, which has threatened the British Tennis Federation (LTA) with the exclusion from the calendar if it continues to deny the participation of Russian and Belarusian players in 2023.

The ATP has fined to the British federation with 950,000 euros and the WTA with 715,000 euros, after its refusal to accept the participation of Russian and Belarusian players in 2022, after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Given Wimbledon’s wish to follow the ban in 2023, if Ukraine was still occupied,. The forceful message of the ATP is a notice to all the tournaments of its circuit in order to keep a firm hand on its international calendar.

Last year Wimbledon no longer gave any points for the ATP and WTA circuits by prohibiting the participation of 13 Russian and 4 Belarusian tennis players with direct access to the male and female individual draw.

Novak Djokovic winner of the title could not add the 2,000 prize points nor Elena Rybakina, women’s champion, born in Moscow and trained in tennis in Russia before becoming a Kazakh national. The absence of points at Wimbledon and the absence of Russian and Belarusian tennis players at the British Grand Slam affected the ATP and WTA world rankings.
