A great car enthusiast, Durant, like most NBA players, has many models in his garage. But where the former Warrior stands out is by having bought a very specific car, among the most legendary in history: the Ford GT40, produced in only 126 copies worldwide from 1964 to 1968.
To understand the importance of this vehicle, you have to go back to the 1960s. Each year, the scuderia de Ferrari then drove in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the most prestigious event. From 1960 to 1965, the Italian team won 5 races in a row, pushing Ford to launch its GT40 project. Engineers and mechanics are busy, and history is in motion: the car now known to posterity as “the Ford that beat Ferrari” is launched.
From 1966 to 1969, Ford slams a historic quadruple, which immediately cements the place of this car in the firmament of the middle. If production was stopped in 1968, 54 years ago, Kevin Durant managed to obtain one of the 126 GT40s built in the history of humanity. KD has never posed with it, always in its logic of discretion, which prevents knowing which exact model, and which color, Durantula preferred.
