Spanish Media Highlights Jordi Amat’s Debut in the Indonesian National Team

The Spanish media highlighted the defender’s debut Jordi Amat together Indonesian National team in the 2022 AFF Cup.

Jordi Amat is a naturalized Indonesian player. The Spanish-born defender has Indonesian blood from his grandmother.

The 30-year-old player has been linked with the naturalization of the Indonesian national team since 2018. Jordi’s long process ended last November.

The former Real Betis player finally made his debut with the Garuda Squad in the first match of Group A 2022 AFF Cup against Cambodia, Friday (23/12). Jordi Amat’s debut caught the attention of the Spanish media, Sports stadium.

“[Eks pemain] Betis won its first match with the Indonesian National Team,” wrote Estadio in the title.

In the report, Jordi Amat said he had to wait more than a year to play for the Red and White Team. Jordi is considered one of the players with good performances at Betis when Quique Setien coached in 2017/2018.

Before debuting with Indonesia, the player from Catalunya spent a young age with the Spanish national team. Jordi Amat was once under the care of Luis Milla, who is now coaching Persib Bandung, in Spain U-20 with Dabni Carvajal, Sarabia, Suso, Paco Alcacer, Saul Niguez, Alvaro Morata and Iker Muniain.

One of the factors that led Jordi to renounce his Spanish citizenship was his grandmother’s blood from Makassar. Because of this blood relationship, Jordi quickly became an Indonesian citizen.

“My grandmother, who supported me a lot during my career as a footballer, was born in Makassar,” said Jordi.
