Spain secures three medals at the El Salvador International

Spanish badminton continues to accumulate medals on the South American tour, after Ania Setién, the Carlos Piris – Joan Monroy men’s doubles and the Monroy and Setién mixed doubles have advanced to the semifinals of the El Salvador International.

Ania Setién is being the most outstanding individual athlete, as she has made her way to the semifinals after beating the player from Guyana Priyanna Ramdhani, the Indian Sri Krishna Priya Kudaravalli and the Colombian Maria Julieth Perez Tangarife. Her rival in her semifinals will be the Mexican Vanessa Maricela Garcia Contreras.

On the other hand, the doubles of Carlos Piris and Joan Monroy have confirmed the good feelings of the last tournaments and will fight for gold against the Czechs Ondřej Král and Adam Mendrek. Along the way they have left the locals Josué Duran – José Alejandro Orellana and the Peruvians Jose Guevara and Diego Mini.

The mixed doubles between Monroy and Setién will also fight to get into the final in San Salvador. The tandem made up of the Catalan and the woman from San Sebastian beat the locals José Alejandro Orellana and Daniela Hernandez and then beat the first seeds, Jonathan Solis and Diana Corleto Soto. Their rivals in the semifinals will be the Peruvians Diego Mini and Paula La Torre Regal.

effort without reward

The rest of the Spanish athletes have competed at a good level, but have not managed to transform their good feelings into results. This is the case of Carlos Piris, who lost in the quarterfinals, or Álvaro Leal, who lost in the round of 16.

The same has happened in the men’s doubles, where Álvaro Leal and Ernesto Baschwitz have lost in the quarterfinals and Jacobo Fernández – Rubén García, in the round of 16. Nor was it the day for the mixed doubles between Paula López and Jacobo Fernández, who was eliminated in the quarterfinals.
