Just short of the medals
Siershahn/Merzig Judo: The Prasko siblings took fifth place in the U15 Southwest Championship.
“It was the first official competition in 2022 for the Saarland U15 judokas. The usual qualification tournament, the state individual championship, did not take place. There were a few private tournaments, but a state individual championship, which is placed shortly before the Southwest Championship, would have been important as preparation and also as a benchmark,” says coach Matthias Bold about the current rather unfavorable situation of his sport in Saarland. This also affects other age groups – and also the active ones.
The performance of the two Merzig U15 judokas at the Southwest Championships on Saturday in Siershahn (Wirges) was all the more gratifying. Both Bogdan Prasko (up to 50 kg) and his sister Anastasia (up to 44 kg) finished fifth.
After an initial defeat against the eventual champion, Bogdan Prasko won against Luca Ferdinand from SV Oberelbert and Arthur Damer from TSG Gießen. The 14-year-old narrowly lost the battle for third place against Mycola Vodoplanov from Limburger TG.
While it is Bogdan’s last year in the U15s, his sister Anastasia started at this level for the first time when she was twelve. “At the beginning I was still a bit nervous. I didn’t fight that well there either. Things got better later on,” she says.
Maximilan Coassin (up to 46 kilos), on the other hand, started very well with a win against Valentin Miglenov from TV Bad Schwalbach. Then there was an annoying defeat against Casper Schun from TG Bad Homburg. The consolation round was similar to the main round for the young Schwemlinger. First a win against Marcel Lotz from TSG Gießen, then the end and thus seventh place against Leon Ganza, who later won bronze, also from TSG Gießen.
