South African Open: Thriston Lawrence imposes end-to-end, Clement Sordet 2nd

Despite a fright at hole 1, with a bogey against a birdie from Clément Sordet, then a turbulent end of the game (four points lost between 14 and 16) Thriston Lawrence finally confirmed his victory at the South African Open. With four birdies between 4 and 10, the local was able to gain a decisive advantage over the Frenchman, signing a last card of 74 to win in -16.

Now a triple winner at the DP World in the space of a year, Lawrence also becomes the 35th South African player to win this tournament. The winner of the Joburg Open and Crans-sur-Sierre last year will join the world top 90 on Monday.

Sordet equals his best performance on the circuit

As for Clément Sordet, his double-bogey on 4, then his points lost on 9, 12 and 17 prevented him from further tickling a feverish Lawrence during the last hour.

The Niçois, who has just risen to the highest continental level, nevertheless signs a good 2nd place (73, -15), one shot ahead of the Swede Jens Farhbring (70). This is his best result on the DP World Tour since his 2nd place brought back from Oman on March 3, 2019.

No other French in the top 25 this week. Jeong Weon Ko and David Ravetto each return a 72 to conclude their week at Blair Atholl and finish 30th (-6). No more success for Romain Langasque and his 73 (40th, -4), while Adrien Saddier brings up the rear in 56th place (72, -1).
