Santos leaves the post of head coach of the Portuguese national team

As the main candidate for the vacant position, the successful Jose Mourinho, who currently leads the “AS Roma” team, is mentioned.

In 2014, the 68-year-old Santos replaced Paula Benta as coach of the Portuguese national team. In 2016, under his leadership, the team became the European champion and in 2019 also won the UEFA Nations League.

During his coaching career, Santos has managed such well-known Portuguese teams as “Porto”, “Benfica” from Lisbon and “Sporting”. He has also coached clubs in Greece – AEK and Panathinaikos.

On the other hand, in the summer of 2010, he became the head coach of the Greek national team, which he also took to the finals of the 2014 World Cup, where the team was able to get out of the subgroup and exited in the first round of the elimination tournament.
