It was almost written in the stars that the World Cup of the Dutch would end in a penalty series. Although it turned out differently than Louis van Gaal had in mind.

Vormer also saw a bright spot in the match against Argentina. His pupil from Club Brugge, Noa Lang, was allowed to make his first minutes at the World Cup.
“I called that one today little”, quipped Vormer; “He’s only 23 years old, isn’t it? It’s a pity that he gets criticized so often from the outside world. He’s a great guy with a good heart, though.”
“I had a lot of contact with him during the World Cup. I wished him luck this morning and told him that I hoped he would play. It was nice that that was the case.”
