Pelé feels “strong” and is continuing his cancer treatment

Former Brazilian footballer Edson Arantes do Nascimento ‘Pelé’, hospitalized since Tuesday, and whose health has been a cause for concern throughout the world, said this Saturday in a reassuring message that he feels “strong” and that is continuing treatment for the colon cancer he was diagnosed with in 2021. “My friends, I want to keep you all calm and positive thinking. I am strong, very hopeful and continue my treatment as always,” he affirmed the three-time world champion, 82 years old, in a message published on his account on the Instagram social network.

Considered, by many, the best footballer of all time, he has thanked the messages of support he has received, as well as the work of the medical team and nurses who take care of him at the Albert Einstein Hospital in Sao Paulo , where he was admitted on Tuesday for a respiratory infection. “I have a lot of faith in God and every message of love I receive from you, from all over the world, keeps me full of energy. And attending Brazil at the World Cup, too,” he assured. Precisely, one of the shows of support has arrived from Qatar, where this Saturday night he was honored by projecting his images on buildings and with drones.

The reassuring message issued by the footballer came after a version published this Saturday by the newspaper Folha de Sao Paulo, which claimed that the three-time world champion was no longer responding to the chemotherapy treatment he was undergoing and that, as as a result, his doctors had chosen to suspend him and offer him palliative care.

Shortly before Pelé himself spoke, a medical bulletin released by Albert Einstein reported that the ex-footballer is stable and responding well to the procedures with which he is being treated for the respiratory infection. Pelé “has also had a good response to the treatment for the respiratory infection, not showing any worsening in his condition in the last 24 hours”, added the newsletter.

The ex-footballer has gone monthly to the same hospital for the chemotherapy sessions with which he is being treated for colon cancer that was diagnosed in September 2021, and his relatives say that the new hospitalization is routine.

The ex-footballer’s health has deteriorated in recent years also due to other causes, such as spine, hip and knee problems, which have reduced his mobility and forced him to go through the operating room, in addition to suffer from a kidney crisis. All of this has drastically reduced his public appearances, although he remains very active on social media.
