Oihan Guillamoundeguy: “That’s it, I’m pro, finally! »

Reached by phone, Oihan Guillamoundeguy explained to us what motivated his choice to embrace a professional career when he was just 18 years old. With the help of an experienced agent, he hopes to quickly climb the ladder and why not strike a blow next week in the Afrasia Bank Mauritius Open at Mont Choisy le Golf.

Interview by Nathan Cardet

Golf Planète: That’s it, have you decided to take the leap towards professionalism?

Written by Guillamoundeguy : Yes. It’s a thoughtful decision with the family and with my coach. I also had the opportunity to sign with a very good agent, Duncan Reid. We weighed the pros and cons. That’s it, I’m pro, finally!

G.P. : Well, is that the term?

O.G. : Finally exactly! I’ve always played golf for fun and I find I get a lot more out of playing professional tournaments. In addition to the possibility of earning a little money, which is cool when you’re young, when you’re a pro, you play crazy courses against good players. I’m going to have my brother on the bag all year, it’s going to be amazing.

GP: Do you feel ready for the professional world?

O.G. : I’m only 18, I’m still young but I feel ready. If that hadn’t been the case, I wouldn’t have done it. You learn on the job, by playing, that’s how you become better. For example, I think I won’t make the same mistakes in Mauritius that I made at the French Open. I hope to quickly get victories this year and why not big victories.

I can’t wait to be at the start of next Thursday 1st with the knife between my teeth.

GP: Precisely, the Afrasia Bank Mauritius Open on the DP World Tour, is it a very good tournament to demonstrate this new status?

O.G. : There is no better way to start. A Tour tournament, in Mauritius, in the heat (laughs). The course is amazing I think. I will also have to manage this excitement. But I knew how to do it very wellOpen the France, that shouldn’t be a problem. I can’t wait to be at the start of next Thursday 1st with the knife between my teeth to get something big.

GP: Do you have an idea of your 2023 calendar?

O.G. : Normally, I should be able to play thanks to invitations at the beginning of the season on the Challenge Tour in South Africa because I am lucky to have a good agent who has a lot of contacts. He works with Ernie Els, Antoine Rozner et Romain Langasque, it’s not just anyone. He knows golf. As soon as I have a question, he is able to answer me, he knows how everything works.
