NFL: We could see Jimmy Garoppolo again this season

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo’s season may not be over.

According to Adam Schefter d’ESPN, doctors concluded that Garoppolo did not suffer a Lisfranc injury to his left foot and would not need surgery. If his fitness goes well, he could return in seven or eight weeks.

If the Niners manage to make it to the playoffs, the club could perhaps bet on Garoppolo. A seven-week timeline would mean a potential comeback for the divisional playoffs as eight weeks would take him to the championship game. For the Super Bowl, we are talking about ten weeks.

Niners coach Kyle Shanahan said Monday the news about Garoppolo’s injury seemed better than initially feared, but he wouldn’t bring up an official diagnosis until Garoppolo asked.

Selon Stephania Bell d’ESPNthe fact that Garoppolo doesn’t need surgery means he has a ‘stable’ injury, which means the broken bones in his foot are properly aligned and don’t need to be repositioned and he there were no significant ligament injuries that would require surgery.

His injury will require the foot to go through a period of immobilization for the fractures to heal. To start playing again, he would need to have enough mobility in his foot to run and get back to all the things a quarterback needs to do after a period of immobilization.

Garoppolo only played eight games on Sunday before being replaced by Brock Purdy, who completed 25 of 37 passes for 210 yards with two touchdowns. He was also intercepted once.

Purdy will start Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
