MLB Pitcher Aims to Set World Record for Fastest Pitch in Antarctica | Pitching | The Epoch Times

[The Epoch Times, December 08, 2022](Reported by Epoch Times reporter Chen Juncun) To celebrate his 30th birthday, Major League Baseball (MLB) pitcher Joe Musgrove traveled to the extremely cold Antarctica Throwing the ball, and throwing the fastest ball at a speed of nearly 140 kilometers per hour, is expected to set a Guinness World Record (also known as the Guinness World Record).

According to the MLB website, Musgrove, who belongs to the San Diego Padres (San Diego Padres), threw an 86 mph (about 138 km) and become the fastest pitched locally.

Musgrove originally planned to set a new record on December 1, but was postponed by a day due to poor weather conditions. He and Sean Manaea, another pitcher on the team, found a flat field, shoveled up snow, and made a simple pitcher’s tread out of gravel from the Antarctic coast.

Musgrove warmed up and practiced throwing, watched by a group of buddies from the Challenged Athletes Foundation.

Musgrove’s first pitch was 79 mph, and he gradually increased his speed until he hit 86 mph, surpassing the goal he had set for himself– 80 miles (about 129 kilometers).

Musgrove said his main concern was not getting hurt. He’s also worried about throwing the ball off the hook and making it fall into the water or snow and can’t find it, but it’s all going well and it feels good to him.

Musgrove’s record-breaking goal is yet to be officially certified by Guinness World Records.

“Antarctica is the most remote and extreme destination in the world. I can’t think of a better place to show how to push the limits of what’s possible,” he said.

In addition to celebrating his birthday, Musgrove pitched in Antarctica to raise funds for the Disabled Athletes Foundation and to raise awareness of disabled athletes.
