Liverpool collapsed at the hands of Olympique Lyon in a test match. The Reds gave up 1-3 despite winning first.
Liverpool will take part in the 2022 Dubai Super Cup friendly tournament against Lyon. The duel took place at Al Maktoum Stadium, United Arab Emirates, Sunday (11/12/2022) evening WIB.
Juergen Klopp’s squad opened the scoring when the match had only been running for one minute. Fabio Carvalho grabbed the ball from Mohamed Salah’s shot which was pushed over by Anthony Lopes.
Liverpool got a golden opportunity to double their position in the 14th minute. The Reds were awarded a penalty after a foul on Roberto Firmino in the forbidden box.
Mohamed Salah, who advanced as Liverpool’s penalty taker, failed to carry out the task perfectly. The ball shot was pushed over by Lopes.
Lyon leveled four minutes before halftime. Alexandre Lacazette broke into the Liverpool goal, taking advantage of Andrew Robertson’s mistake with Caoimhin Kelleher. The first half ended 1-1.
Liverpool replaced the majority of their players in the second half. Lyon turned things around to 2-1 through Bradley Barcola’s goal to enter the 64th.
Lyon again broke into Liverpool’s goal in the 83rd minute. Lacazette scored a brace through his shot, taking advantage of the ball thrown up by Adrian’s feet.
Liverpool tried to minimize the situation in the remaining time, but their efforts failed to produce results. The game is over for Lyon’s 3-1 victory.
The match continued with a bonus penalty shootout. Lyon won the round of high-fives 5-3 after Lopes saved the ball from the Reds’ second executor, Calvin Ramsay.
