Jürgen Feldmann receives 6th Dan Aikido

The chairman and main trainer of the Aikido community in Lünen, Jürgen Feldmann, received a great honor on the first weekend in November. At the Budo course of the Kokusai-Budo-Koenkai in Lenting / Bavaria he was awarded the sixth Dan in Aikido by the Dankollegium. This allows him to wear a red and white striped belt instead of the traditional black belt.

The Kokusai-Budo-Koenkai is a martial arts community that aims to preserve and spread traditional Japanese martial arts (e.g. karate, aikido, iaido, judo, etc.).

Jürgen Feldmann has been practicing Aikido for almost 30 years, or as he calls it “his secret lover”. In 1997 he founded the Aikido community in Lünen and still leads it today as its first chairman. Since then he has introduced hundreds of people from Lün to Aikido.

The Aikido community in Lünen currently consists of around 70 members. In addition to adult training, children and youth training is also offered.

Aikido is a purely defensive self-defense technique that uses an attacker’s strength and momentum to one’s advantage. What is special about her is that she is not designed to hurt an opponent. In most techniques, the opponent is only brought down or his joints are leveraged in such a way that further attacks become impossible. Aikido is therefore often referred to as a peaceful martial art or called “the art of peace”. There are no competitions. The focus is on developing your own personality and striving for perfection.

Although the number of Aikido practitioners with a sixth Dan in Germany is very manageable and the belt indicates considerable ability, Feldmann remains down to earth. He comments on the award: “After all, the belt only holds the jacket together”.

If you want to try it yourself: On January 4, 2023, a beginner’s course for adults will start again. The following week, a beginner’s course for children and young people aged 8 and over. Vouchers as a Christmas present are possible. Further information at www.aikido-luenen.de
