Jimena Alonso, champion of the TOP TTR Tournament in female individual sub15

On Saturday, December 10, 2022, in the Municipal Sports Pavilion of El Campello (Alicante) a TOP TTR Tournament was held, scoring for the national Badminton ranking up to which four members of the Albatros Badminton Sports Club, Carla, Carla Cantero, Sara Checa and Raúl Rodríguez in the Sub19 category, as well as Jimena Alonso in the Sub15 category; Our brave men came to Alicante, defying the early morning, since the Tournament began at 9:30 a.m., measuring 340 km, for a total of 680 km. between round trip, to the town of Alicante, ending the Tournament around 7:00 p.m.

The early start and the kilometers have been worth it, because in the Under 15 Women’s Individual category, Jimena Alonso rose to the top of the podium, remaining as CHAMPION of the Tournament, with all her matches won with great solvency even though her opponents had a number of ranking lower than her, so the first place in this TTR Tournament has served for Jimena to rise to 73rd place in the national ranking, rising 26 places in this, with a view to the dispute of the next U15 Spanish Championship of the year 2023.

Jimena Alonso has also played the Women’s Doubles modality, in this case together with Lucía Barbero, from Club Badminton Albacete, where they suffered from competing in a higher category than theirs, the Sub17 being the two Sub15 players, not being able to pass the phase group games, although two of their three matches took them to the third set.

In the Under 19 Female Individual category, Carla Cantero had a great tournament, although she could not go from the group stage to the main draw, nevertheless she climbed 26 places in the national ranking, ranking 111th with four tournaments played; On the other hand, Sara Checa, also in the U19 Female Individual, suffered the same fate as her teammate and couldn’t get past the groups.

In the Men’s Individual Sub19, Raúl Rodríguez could not sneak into the final draw either, staying in the group stage.

Carla Cantero and Sara Checa also competed in the U19 Women’s Doubles, being on the verge of finishing in second place, since in the match they played for the podium (in the Federated Badminton Tournaments the podium is two) they had the victory in the third set and they escaped due to small details, finishing in third position of the Tournament.

Raúl Rodríguez, together with Mario Serrano from Albacete, played the U19 Men’s Doubles, finishing in third place like his teammates, with two of his matches also to three sets and only small details prevented him from stepping on the second drawer of the podium.
