Jhonny Vásquez recalled that he had leukemia before the final

Although the Colombian soccer environment found out about and supported Jhonny Vásquez at the time his serious illness became known, it is prudent to highlight and remember him now that he will play the final between Deportivo Pereira and Independent Medellin. That is why they have asked him about it in recent press conferences and he tells it with pride, explaining what has happened in his life.

For those who don’t have it in mind, In 2015, the midfielder played for Junior de Barranquilla and was diagnosed with a very delicate case of leukemia that put his life at risk. At that time he had to give up football to treat his illness and, fortunately, he recovered and was able to return to activity a year later.

After passing through the ‘shark’ team, in 2016 he went to América de Cali, in 2018 he ended up at Águilas Doradas and in 2019 he arrived at Pereira. He looked like he was nearing the end of his career, but his professionalism and conviction led him to keep goingdespite having reached a team that was in B.

On November 30, at the press conference after the match in which Deportivo Pereira defeated Junior and qualified for the final of the BetPlay 2-2022 League, Vásquez referred to that stage of his life in which the ‘shark’ team supported him and the fans were by his side.

“7 and a half years ago I was diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia, here in the city of Barranquilla. The fans welcomed me, a club wrapped me up. Today God placed me in Barranquilla, to play the most important game of my life. I got up and did a tally; people who prayed for me, who gave me words of blessing, which have been fulfilled as time has passed in Pereira. A beautiful story in this institution, I am privileged of the glory that God has placed in me “

“Everyone knows that in 2015 I was diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia, today I feel fine, healthy, thank God. The whole process that I lived through. At this moment we have to channel all those sensations, surround ourselves with people who can generate peace, tranquility, affection, rest, it is paramount. I have a lot of faith in the whole process that God has been doing with me, for so long, where I have seen all the power and glory that he has placed ”.

This may be Vásquez’s most important title, since with Junior he won the 2015 Colombian Cup and also won the first division twice with América (2016) and Pereira (2019). That is why the importance and significance of this challenge:
