Invisible and worst in passing. Soucek under fire, West Ham looking for reinforcements

Immediately after the return of Premier League football, the anger of West Ham fans also returned. In addition to manager David Moyes, who in the eyes of the fans wasted a long break and did not come up with any changes again, criticism is also aimed at the heads of the Czech representatives. Tomáš Souček had dismal game statistics on the Arsenal field.

The moments when they could enjoy uncritical admiration are now gone. Both Vladimír Coufal and Tomáš Souček are going through difficult times, just like all of West Ham.

After the defeat at the ground of leaders Arsenal, the Hammers are already up to their necks in the fight to stay in the top flight, they are just one point ahead of the relegation places.

While Coufala was blamed by the fans for the fact that he caused Bukaya Saka’s equalizing goal with a “schoolboy” mistake and thus the turnaround in the final 3:1 for the Gunners, Souček was practically not seen at the Emirates.

He mustered just 29 touches of the ball in the London derby in 78 minutes before Moyes took him off the pitch. Only another lackluster part of West Ham’s game, cut-off forward Michail Antonio, had fewer of them.

But the number of passes and their accuracy struck Souček much more.

The captain of the Czech national team tallied only 19 passes, successfully finding the addressee in only 42 percent of cases, when he was unable to cope with the extremely fast pressing of Arsenal’s mobile players.

He was the worst from West Ham, with 44 percent not even Antonio can beat the frame, but the other players in the field reached at least 70 percent in this indicator.

This time, the Czech did not make up for weak constructiveness with defensive actions, for example, he did not record a single block or a single intercepted pass for the entire match, which is not usual for him.

“Show me another central midfielder in the entire football world who has these numbers in terms of passing. Appalling,” wrote the Hammers News website, which has already called on Moyes several times this season to bench Soucek and try a talented Flynn Downes.

“If he puts Soucek in the lineup on Friday against Brentford, he will sign his own ortel,” the Hammers News server ran into the rocking chair under Moyes.

The Scottish manager is under more and more pressure, so in January he will want to continue the rebuilding of the squad, which began in the summer with the big signings of Thile Kehrer, Gianluca Scamacca, Najef Aguerde, Emerson or Lucas Páqueta, although none of them have yet been able to bring to the team higher quality.

According to indications, it should be especially the positions in which the Czech representatives are working.

Island media are speculating about right backs, Croatian Josip Juranović or Aaron Wann-Bissak from Manchester United. West Ham should try to bring Azzedine Ounahi, one of the Moroccans who shined at the World Cup in Qatar, into the reserve.
