“I told him I didn’t want to work with him anymore and he cried”

A video shot on the sly rekindles the controversy that broke out in Cameroon between the national coach Rigobert Song and Andrew Onanaexcluded from the list of Indomitable Lions during the World Cup that ended too early for Vincent Aboubakar and comrades. The coach, filmed without his knowledge, explained all the reasons that led him to the decision to dismiss the Inter goalkeeper: “I went to the president and then I told the player that I didn’t want to work with him and he exploded cry. Onana came to see me, it was the day before the Serbia match. I answered him: ‘Piccolo, I don’t have time, I’m getting my boys ready. If you wanted to talk to me, you should have come earlier. Yesterday it was me who call you, you didn’t come'”. However, there is a problem that Song underlines, namely the lack of concentration shown in the finishing-off before the match against the Serbs, where, according to him, Onana shows little concentration: “Onana then trains, does his one man showplay with your feet. I called him and said, ‘My boy, these are risks. He plays the ball on the side. It’s easier on the side because if you lose the ball you can get back on goal early.”

Next, Rigobert Song explains how Samuel Eto’o, president of the Football Association supported him in his decision. “I speak with Vincent Aboubakar, Sadness, Choupo-Moting, Boss. I can’t talk to you? Who are you? I stopped training, told everyone to go to the locker room. I told him: ‘You ruined my training’. Eto’o was in the stands and saw everything. Back at the hotel, instead of coming to talk to me, he goes to Eto’o, thinking he would support him. But Eto’o sent him I don’t know where… he doesn’t know that man.”
