Graulhet and Saïx, inclusion at the heart of Minister Geneviève Darrieussecq’s visit

Geneviève Darrieussecq, Minister Delegate to the Minister of Solidarity, Autonomy in charge of Disabled People, was in the Tarn this Friday, December 9. A visit where we talked a lot about inclusion.

”There is a very good associative dynamic here in Saïx which allows young people with disabilities to practice a sport (archery adapted sport). We would like to develop this dynamic throughout the territory through the Federations and clubs. There are currently 1,000 para-welcoming clubs in France. After the 2024 Paris Olympics, the goal is for there to be 4,000. It’s ambitious, but we’re going to rely on the Federations. This dynamic must be supported by local communities,” indicated Geneviève Darrieussecq, Minister Delegate to the Minister for Solidarity, Autonomy in charge of Disabled People, during her visit to the Ellie Castelle sports complex in Saïx. Accompanied by many personalities, including the prefect of Tarn François-Xavier Lauch, Christophe Ramond, president of the Departmental Council of Tarn, Vincent Garel, the regional councilor, Jacques Armengaud, the mayor of Saïx… She exchanged with Frédérique Huc, president of the Committee departmental sports department of the Tarn, but also with Jérôme Bernard who chairs the disabled sports committee of the Tarn. During this visit, the minister was treated to an introduction to archery as well as the prefect of the Tarn. The opportunity for Geneviève Darrieussecq to dialogue with the archers of the ASL Passions association. Chaired by Francis Carlessi, this association offers sports activities for people with disabilities.

Adapted sport, 1,000 licensees in the Tarn

ASL Passions has positioned itself with national authorities to be able to host the French para-cross championship in 2024 at the Etangs leisure center in Saïx. An initiative supported by the municipality of Saïx. Adapted sport in the Tarn is 1,000 members who practice in clubs for leisure or competition. 80 sports meetings adapted to the nature of the handicap and to the practice of each are organized in the department. In addition, the Tarn department has 150 disabled sports licensees and 15 to 20 clubs. The problem of the inclusion of these para-athletes was raised during this meeting. A problem that concerns local sports clubs, but some have taken the plunge in the south of the department. This is the case of Castres water sports which has had a disabled swimming section for several years. “The question of inclusion is to make the disabled person a citizen like everyone else who can express themselves through sport,” said one participant. Hence the desire of the Tarn sports committees concerned to set up the widest possible range of activities (leisure competitions, etc.) so that all sportsmen and women can express themselves. Previously Geneviève Darrieussecq was in Graulhet where she visited the family reception and the Villebois solidarity residence and exchanged managers and residents. She also initialed with Christophe Ramond and Stéphane Corbin, deputy director of the Caisse Nationale de solidarité du Tarn, the framework agreement concerning inclusive housing in the Tarn.
