Gobela exhibits historical pride in the Cup

The Arenas fans had a great time and turned the Cup match against Valladolid into a party. The return of this competition to Gobela 38 years later left its mark with packed stands that did not stop cheering on the red and black. He reached hearts. “No matter the result, we are going to die with the team”, as the young fan Jon Agirre said.

The atmosphere began to heat up in the street with a few dozen local fans, especially young people. In the afternoon, a kalejira was performed by the Kolectivo Gobela. As the president of this club, Javi Ocáriz, said, “we have to make the team feel us.” And so it happened. Around 7:30 p.m., the club’s bus arrived with the entire squad and some 300 people received them, forming a corridor with flares.

“It is a unique, special occasion. Gobela is a caldera”, stressed the president of Arenas, Gorka Zurinaga, with satisfaction. The field was packed and 1,200 throats cheered endlessly. There was already a half inning almost an hour before starting the game. Everyone chanted ‘historic’ when jumping to warm up the red and black. Most of them were young, the new sap that Arenas wants to nurture while showing off the historic muscle that the club had in its origins.

fight for promotion

It is not for less because it is about greening the laurels of yesteryear as much as possible. The team plays in the Second RFEF and its objective is to sneak into the play-offs with the top teams. The aspiration of the current board is to make that dream of promotion come true in the medium term. And this young team coached by Javier Olaizola, with an average age of 22, has begun to make its mark among the public. This Wednesday there were hundreds of kids from the lower teams chanting songs incessantly and playing the drums.

The score was 1-5 the same because all the fans stood up and offered a standing ovation to the players, who greeted the only stands this stadium has. “A gala ovation for Arenas after this excellent 2022”, they thanked over the public address system, before wishing those in attendance happy holidays.
