TRIER. On the 11th day of the 2022/23 season of the BARMER 2nd Basketball Bundesliga, the Gladiators Trier travel to Münster on Saturday. Against the newly promoted WWU Baskets Münster, it’s all about the next important points in order to leave the bottom of the table as quickly as possible.

After a good start to the season, the Munsters had to take two defeats in a row and stand with four wins from ten games only one win ahead of the gladiators. So the game on Saturday is also very important for the team of ProB coach of the year Björn Harmsen in order not to lose touch with the playoff places. A statistical comparison makes it clear that the WWU Baskets – just like the Gladiators – attach great importance to good rebounding. With an average of 39.8 team rebounds per game, the Munsters are in second place in the league – behind the Moselstadt team (40.1 rebounds per game). The greatest statistical weakness of the promoted team is the three-point shot, with a hit rate of just 29.6%, the Westphalians are last in the league.

Before the season, the WWU Baskets kept a large part of the promotion team together and only committed individual players to do so. With Andreas Seiferth, the university townsfolk managed a real transfer coup, the 33-year-old big man with a past from Trier moved from Bayreuth to North Rhine-Westphalia and, with an average of 13.8 points and 8 rebounds per game, put on strong values that also made him the Make the team’s top scorer. Seiferth received the most support from US new signing Connor Harding (10.2 points per game) and point guard Jasper Günther (8.7 ppg). There is great balance in the Münster rotation, which is probably one of the greatest strengths of the promoted team. For the gladiators, it is not just about keeping the top performers in check and putting a strong defensive performance on the floor as a team.

Head coach Pascal Heinrichs also knows about the quality of the next opponent and says: ” Munster is a very dangerous opponent. You still have the promotion euphoria and many spectators in your hall. You currently have a small series of negatives that we can hopefully extend. It’s a well-rehearsed team, which is complemented by Andi Seiferth, who is clearly a BBL player. We have to get him under control, that will be very important.”
