Gaizka Porras and Laura Casabuena will win the Alcoy Sports Awards

The judoka Gaiza Porras and the gymnast Laura Casabuena will be the main protagonists of the Alcoy Sports Awards. Porras will take the Juan Agudo Garat award for best athlete, while Casabuena will be awarded as Best Promotion Sportsman.

The gala to be held on Friday December 16, at 7:45 p.m., in the Àgorawill pay homage to these athletes who during this last season have accumulated successes in their respective sports at a national and international level.

Porras has been a gold medalist in the senior category -60 kg in the absolute Spanish Judo Championship and has participated in the day of the German Bundesliga with full victories, in addition to touring various European tournaments and being part of the judokas participating in the final phase of the European Judo sub23 contested in Sarajevo.

Casabuena has recently participated in the Absolute World Championship of artistic gymnastics in Liverpool, where he managed to get into the ‘all around’ final with a 24th place finish and a 17th place for teams together with her teammates from the Spanish National Team. In addition, she has been runner-up in Spain and first place overall in the Second Division of the Iberdrola League, among other individual and collective successes.

These awards will also be accompanied by mentions at the age of 25 from Club Aikido Alcoy and the promotions of the men’s category from Noubrot Basquet Alcoi and the junior from Club Basquet Juventut Alcoi. José Lerma, Nuria Trenzano, Lorenzo Pastor and artistic gymnastics in general will also receive special mentions.

The gala will also serve to deliver the scholarships to the 20 athletes chosen by the jury, after receiving 41 applications. The economic game of 14,000 euros will be distributed, in addition to the aforementioned Porras and Casabuena, the athletes Daniela Picó (rhythmic gymnastics); Arnau Aracil (judo); Vicente Garcia (BMX); Joan Montes (orientation); Alejandra Gisbert (athletics); Àngels Alcaraz (archery); Lucía Casabuena (artistic gymnastics); Sofía Crespo (artistic swimming); Inés Padilla (artistic gymnastics); Abel Sempere (chess); Alejandro Rojas (Nordic walking); Itziar Peris (artistic gymnastics); Marc Peris (artistic gymnastics); Marta Crespo (artistic swimming); Olaia Albert (triathlon); Alejandra Alcaraz (skateboarding); Alba Sanegre (trail); and Zayra Martínez (artistic gymnastics).

The godfather of the gala that each year contributes his vision as an elite athlete will be this year Diego García Carreraspecialist athlete in the discipline of walking, champion of Spain in the 20km walk in 2021, bronze in the European Championships in 2022 and sixth in the 20km of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

So much Alberto BeldaCouncilor for Sports, as javi lopezdirector of Sports Center, have highlighted “the sporting successes of a good year”, as well as the multitude of disciplines existing among the scholarship recipients. The gala will serve to close the calendar year, but the sport will not stop giving joy at the local level with all the talent of young promises and already consolidated athletes.
