Now TV expert Dietmar Hamann (49) shoots against the Portuguese superstar. What upsets him: Immediately disappearing into the dressing room after the 1-0 loss to Morocco in the quarter-finals, without paying the slightest attention to the victorious opponent.

Hamann on Irish TV channel RTÉ 2: “People talk about these superstars, top players, top earners – and when you consider that one of the biggest players who disappeared from the scene last week, Ronaldo, couldn’t even congratulate them after the game …” Morocco were the first African team to ever make it to a World Cup semi-final.

The vice world champion from 2002 continued: “They (Morocco, ed.) won this game and did something historic, and he didn’t even have the dignity to congratulate them on what they have achieved.”

Two players from the “Lions of Atlas” tried to comfort Ronaldo on his way to the dressing room and put their arms around him. But the disappointment with “CR7”, who could no longer hold back the tears after his probably last World Cup appearance, was apparently too great. His gaze went further into emptiness, there was hardly any visible reaction to his opponents.

In Hamann’s opinion, the Moroccans showed how losing is decent, even after the 2-0 defeat in the semifinals against France on Wednesday: “And now watch them shake hands with the French. The dignity and kindness they show in defeat – brilliant.”

Ronaldo explained his feelings and disappointment the day after: “Winning a World Cup for Portugal was the biggest and most ambitious dream of my career. I fought for it. I fought hard for this dream. Unfortunately, the dream burst yesterday.”
